① Crochet Café

with Kat

Starting bid: ¥2,500

Lot description:

If you are new to Crochet, I can help teach you the skills to start over a coffee in Fukuoka City for an afternoon. I can guide you through a ¥100 store to help you find all you need (and tell you what you probably don’t need as well) to create something you want with crochet, then we can chat over a coffee while I guide your creation. I’m happy to connect on social media for follow up help with your crochet later if you’d like.

② Let's try Gouache!

Starting bid: ¥2,000

with Kristen

Lot description:

Gouache is an easy medium that’s like watercolor but leaves more room for mistakes. I’ll teach you the basics: how to handle the brush and apply the paint, as well as a little color theory. We’ll also cover what you need to get started. The participant will leave with at least one or two simple floral paintings. The lesson will be in person and supplies will be provided. Visit my "studio" in Kurume, or I can bring this lesson to you in Fukuoka.

③ Custom Woodshop Item

from Paige

Starting bid: ¥1,500

Lot description:

I will make a wooden piece of small furniture or other item of your choice at my school's wood shop. I can make a small shelf, a toilet paper roll holder, pot trivets, etc.! We can work out delivery after the item has been finished. Items will be sanded and can be finished with a dark brown stain or left with their natural surface.

④ Beginner Language Lesson

with Paige

Starting bid: ¥1,500

Lot description:

Join me for a casual and fun beginner's language class! Choose from:

  1. Mandarin
    1. Chinese major in college (passed the HSK6 and studied abroad for an academic year in Guizhou).
  2. French
    1. I studied abroad (briefly, thanks COVID) in France, taking university classes taught in French and have taken French since middle school.
  3. Hawaiian
    1. In high school, I worked part-time at a Hawaiian Immersion after school program for elementary school students, but I count my Hawaiian as only low intermediate level. I can't really write Hawaiian well since I learned it oral/aurally, but I can read it and can introduce reading basics so you can comfortably read Hawaiian words/street names on your next visit! ;)

*Disclaimer: I'm a non-native speaker and not trained to teach any of these languages.

⑤ Herbal Energetics &

Tea Tasting

Starting bid: ¥1,500

with Kristen

Lot description:

Hey, tea lovers! Did you know that an herbal tea’s taste and medicinal properties often go hand-in-hand? Spicy, bitter, sweet, sour, and salty are the five main flavor profiles. Each has a different effect on the body. I’d love to share my beginner’s knowledge on the topic, which I learned while enrolled in a 6-month herbal program in the Appalachian Mountains. How will this help you? Well, once you know the different impacts of flavor on the body, you can choose your teas more wisely. Join me in Kurume for a fun herbal energetics lesson paired with a tea tasting! If you’re in Fukuoka, I may also be able to come to you as long as a tea kettle and mugs are within reach.

Lot description:

This is your chance for an original artwork by a painter and herbalist in training! A few years ago, I hand-painted my very own materia medica while enrolled in a 6-month herbal program in the Appalachian Mountains. I’d love to create a memorable 6” x 8” gouache painting for you to cherish in my style of a materia medica page. Choose one (or two herbs) for your illustration. Could be your favorite tea, your favorite bouquet, or that one herb that you love to stop and smell on strolls—it’s your choice! I’ll make you a beautiful little painting to cherish.

⑦ Hula Lesson

with Caitlyn

Starting bid: ¥2,000

I am offering hula class for 1-3 people! Come down to Yanagawa and learn the basics of hula, the traditional dance local to Hawaii. Learn a simple song and take a picture wearing a pa’u (Hawaiian skirt). Please wear exercise clothes (or anything to sweat in) and a plain black shirt (optional, only if you want the picture).

⑧ Reiki Session

Starting bid: ¥ 2,500

with Kevin

Lot description:

I am offering a 60min Reiki session at my apartment in Miyanojin, Kurume. The Reiki I practice is a simple method of hands-on energy healing, as developed by Mikao Usui, a monk in Kyoto, Japan. Reiki energy flows through the hands of the Reiki practitioner and transfers to the person receiving the treatment. This energy is then used to normalize body functions and helps reestablish balance and harmony in the physical, emotional, and spiritual planes. It promotes relaxation and a feeling of calm.

⑨ Photography Shoot

with Anthony

Lot description:

I am a photographer who can shoot both landscape type shots and portraits. Currently, I am only able to distribute the photos in a digital format.

Visyana or Yin Yoga

with Nadine

Lot description:

I will create a 1-hour yoga sequence tailored to your wishes in either a vinyasa or yin yoga style. The class could focus on breathing exercises, meditation, strength building, releasing a particular muscle group or working towards a specific physical pose. The location will be either in Nadine's flat in Shin-Iizuka, or, if you have space, at your home. Alternatively, and weather depending, we could practice outside in a park. No previous experience in yoga is needed whatsoever, but you will need your own mat!

⑪ Singing Telegram

from Gillian

Starting bid: ¥2,000

Are you rattling your brain about what to do on your friend’s or loved one’s upcoming birthday? Or do you want to do an out-of-the-box special for an upcoming event? I would love to help you surprise that someone and put a smile on their face, by writing and packaging a personal song message. You can choose to have this delivered via live phone call, audio or video format. All you’d need to do is share some information, and I’d repackage it into a song. This could include personality details, things you love and appreciate, special memories etc.

Starting bid: ¥3,000

⑫Photography for a Day

with Sam

Lot description:

A day of photography where we will go out and explore your area, looking at our beautiful cities through a camera. Whether you have plenty experience or none at all, we will take pictures of the people and places that hold so much beauty. If you have little experience, I’ll teach the basics in light, subject and composition, among other aspects of photography. And if you have plenty of experience, let’s have fun taking pictures.

Day will include a camera, digital copies of all your favourite images and at least one to be developed professionally for you to keep (normally ¥1,700).

⑬&⑭ Handmade Jewelry

Lot description:

I make jewelry as a hobby, and I also used to work at a bead store in Hawaii. I use sterling silver wire and earring wires, and I use colored gemstones for the beads in my jewelry. I plan to offer two skills related to this.

First, I want to offer a lesson on how to make earrings with sterling silver wire and color gemstones. I have a lot of different types of beads the person can choose from.

Second, I also want to sell a custom made pair of earrings, whatever the buyer would like me to make. If they have a favorite color or outfit they’d like to make.
